A wander round Vanessa's

First things first.  I've been at the shop all day but Antony, my shining knight, managed to track me down a tin of tomatoes at the little fruit & veg shop on Woodhall Way.  One tin of Napolina tomatoes for £1.39 which at first I thought was fairly outrageous but then a quick search on Tesco's website turned up the same ones at £1.15 after which the price difference didn't seem that bad.  Maybe I won't be saying that next week when I do my full shop and have to pay 24p extra for every item!

So, I'm all set for making my casserole with the lovely looking Lincolnshire sausages I got from Vanessa (the new deli in Saturday Market) the other day.

While I was in there, quite a few things caught my eye including a really good selection of herbs & spices from Steenbergs...

the meat counter, which looked really fresh and appetising (unless of course you're veggie or vegan)

Bowls of olives from The Fresh Olive Company

And these interesting looking rubs and coatings for meat and fish from Gordon Rhodes.  They're not normally the sort of thing I go for but how pretty is that packaging?  I think I could be tempted next time I'm in there.

Finally, and possibly best of all, beers from Samuel Smith's Brewery in Tadcaster.

I've only really just discovered beer and I can't believe what I've been missing all these years.  I think we may be treating ourselves to a small selection of these before too long.  Which reminds me, if you're a beer fan and you haven't yet discovered Henry Yeast & Son on Newland Ave in Hull, find time to go.  Go now!  You'll be happy you did, I promise.
